William H. "Bill" Broad, \n87, of East Brewster Road, Butler, Pennsylvania went \nhome to be with his Lord and Savior on July 20, 2013 \nat 5:10 p.m. at the VNA Inpatient Hospice. \n\n\nHe was born January 20, \n1926 in Claytonia, Pennsylvania to the late William \nThomas Broad and Bessie Amanda (Lingerman) Broad.\n\nMr. Broad was a veteran of \nthe United States Army, serving in the European and \nAfrican Middle East Campaign during World War II. He \nworked at Pullman Standard until his retirement in \n1981. Mr. Broad was a member of the First Baptist \nChurch, where he was a member of the Berean Sunday \nSchool Class. Bill was known as the "candy man" and \nenjoyed gardening, raising & training beagles and \ngiving to those less fortunate. He loved spending \ntime with his family, his children, grandchildren \nand great-grandchildren..\n\nMr. Broad is survived by \ntwo daughters, Janice Petsinger of Butler, PA and \nCindy Oesterling and her husband Ray of Butler, PA; \none son, Samuel Broad and his wife Debbie of Butler, \nPA; six grandchildren, Aaron Petsinger and his wife \nKiersten, Eric Oesterling and his wife Ann, Ginger \nGall and her husband Andy, Amanda Vaughan and her \nhusband Greg, Darcie Marshall and her husband Pastor \nPhil and Joel Broad; thirteen great-grandchildren; \none sister-in-law, Patricia Broad of Butler, PA; two \nnieces; and two nephews.\n\nIn addition to his parents, \nhe was preceded in death by his loving wife and best \nfriend for 66 years, Della Mae (Moser) Broad, whom \nhe married February 16, 1946, and who passed away \nMay 7, 2012; his son-in-law, Bill Petsinger; one \nbrother, John Ralph Broad; and two nephews, John \nLynwood Broad and Thomas Eric Broad.\nFriends will be received \nTuesday, July 23, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. \nat the \nThompson - Miller Funeral Home, \nInc., 124 East North Street, Butler, PA.\n\nFuneral services will be held Wednesday, July \n24, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at the Thompson-Miller Funeral \nHome Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, PA, with \nPastor David Maitland and Pastor Todd Wentworth of \nFirst Baptist Church and Pastor Phil Marshall, \nAssociate Pastor at First Baptist Church, Altoona, \nPA, officiating.\n\nOfficers and members of the \nAmerican Legion Post #778 of Lyndora and the VFW \nPost #249 will conduct military services at the \nFuneral Home following the funeral service.\nBurial will \ntake place in the North Side Cemetery.\n\n\n\nMemorial Donations are \nsuggested to the VNA Inpatient Hospice, 115 \nTechnology Drive, Butler, PA 16001.
