Virginia J. \nMcClelland, 98, of Butler, passed peacefully on \nSaturday October, 26, 2019 Sunnyview Nursing and \nRehabilitation Center.\n\nShe was born, January 14, 1921 in Sheridan, PA, to \nthe late Daniel Staiger and Juliana Flora (Klein) \nStaiger.\n\nVirginia graduated from Slippery Rock High School in \n1940. Her earliest aspiration was to be a \nprofessional singer, although that dream was \ninterrupted by WWII. She briefly attended business \nschool in Pittsburgh, then lived and worked for a \nshort time in Philadelphia and Washington D.C. \nduring the war. She spent the rest of her life in \nButler, PA. \n\nVirginia never stopped loving music and singing. She \nwas a member of Nixon United Methodist Church and an \nactive participant in the choir. She was creative \nand very active throughout her entire life. Most \nsummers, even into her early 90's, she worked \npicking berries at local farms. She loved birds and \nnature and taking long walks. She was an avid reader \nand she kept a life-long journal having written \npoetry and short stories. Virginia loved to cook and \nbake. She helped make quilts for fundraising \nprojects at her church. She loved traveling and was \nalways ready for a new adventure. Her cheerful smile \nand the life-loving twinkle in her eyes remained. \nHer motto: "I haven't ever done that; let's go!"\n\nShe is survived by her brother, Hugh Klein Staiger \nof Palmyra, VA, her son Michael Thomas Ahner of \nColorado Springs, CO, two grandsons, Michael R. \nAhner and Brian Christianson, both of Michigan, \nseveral step-children, and numerous nieces, nephews, \ngrand-nieces, and grand-nephews.\n\nIn addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in \ndeath by her first husband, Luther Nathaniel Ahner \nin 1986, her second husband, Gardiner Eugene \nMcClelland in 2000, her brothers, Merle Dale Staiger \nand John Daniel Staiger. \n\nVisitation will be Tuesday, October 29, 2019 from \n10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Thompson-Miller Funeral \nHome, 124 E. North St., Butler, PA 16001.\n\nA Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the \nFuneral Home with Reverend WiIliam Gilligan, \nofficiating.\n\nBurial will be at Greenlawn Burial Estates.\n\nIn lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to, \nNixon United Methodist Church, 334 Airport Rd, \nButler, PA 16002 or the Butler Area Public Library, \n218 N McKean St, Butler, PA 16001.
