Sara Jane Shaffer Obituary (1920

Sara Jane (Sprenkle) Shaffer, 100, of Butler, PA, passed away quietly on Thursday December 10, 2020 at Concordia at the Orchard in Butler, PA. Sara was born in Butler, PA on March 9, 1920 to the late Ralph E. and Marie (Hailstone) Sprenkle. She was a 1937 graduate of Butler High School where she was salutatorian of her class. Sara went on to college at Pennsylvania College for Women (now Chatham College) and completed her studies at Katharine Gibbs College in New York City. Sara returned to Butler and married her childhood sweetheart, James Richard (Dick) Shaffer on September 25, 1941. Sara enjoyed playing bridge, crossword puzzles, watercolor painting, reading and bicycle trail riding with Dick. She is survived by her sons, Peter (Janie) Shaffer of Butler, PA and William (Stephanie) Shaffer of Mars, PA; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Sara was preceded in death by her parents, her husband who passed away on October 12, 2016 and her son, James Richard (Skip), Jr. who passed away on November 23, 2017. Services will be held at the convenience of the family at a later date. A private burial will take place in the North Side Cemetery.
