Ronald Richard "Mick" \nMcCandless, 79, of Butler, Pennsylvania, passed away \non November 23, 2021, at the Good Samaritan Hospice \nat Concordia.\n\nHe was born January 24, 1942, in Butler, \nPennsylvania to the late Howard E. McCandless, Sr. \nand the late Stella M. (Measel) McCandless.\n\nMick attended Knoch Senior High School in Saxonburg \nand graduated in the first graduating class in 1959. \nHe worked for Friedman's Supermarkets, as Store \nManager in Saxonburg, retiring in 2004 after 44 \nyears. Mick served as a Staff Sergeant in US Air \nForce Reserves for 6 years, in the 911 Support \nSquadron, S.A.C. at Greater Pittsburgh Airport, in \nPittsburgh, PA. He was the "Airman of the Year" in \n1968. Mick was a member of the Faith Lutheran \nChurch. He was a life member of the Happy Hunters \nSportsmen Club of Fenelton, PA and a life member of \nthe National Rifleman Association. Mick was a member \nof Sarver Vets Club, American Legion Post 0945, and \nMoose #64.\n\nMick is survived by his two sisters, Judith Neill of \nButler, PA, Twila (Donald F.) Stewart of NC; two \nsisters-in-law, MaryAnn McCandless of Butler, \nShirley Ann McCandless of Renfrew; several nieces \nand nephews; and a number of great nieces and great \nnephews. \n\nIn addition to his parents, he was preceded in death \nby three brothers, Howard Jr., Robert, and Gary; and \none brother-in-law, William Neill.\n\nFriends will be received Monday, November 29, 2021, \n2:00 pm - 6:00 pm at Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, \nInc., 124 East North Street, Butler, PA. \n\nOfficers and Members of the American Legion Post \n#117, American Legion Post #778, and the VFW Post \n#249 will conduct military services at 6:00 pm at \nthe funeral home. \n\nA funeral service will be held following the \nvisitation at 6:00 pm at the Thompson-Miller Funeral \nHome Inc., 124 East North St. Butler, PA, with Rev. \nDavid M. Phillips, officiating.\n\nBurial will take place in the Greenlawn Burial \nEstates.
