John "Jack" \nL. Patten, 84, of Butler, PA, went to be with the \nLord on October 23, 2020 at the Good Samaritan \nHospice in Cabot, PA. \n\nHe was born February 21, 1936 in Butler, PA to the \nlate Homer A. Patten and the late Margaret Sutliffe \nPatten. \n\nJack worked as a Food Services Director for Butler \nArea School District, retired in 1993. He enjoyed \nwoodworking and cake decorating. Jack was a member \nof Community Alliance Church and Southernaires \nSouthern Gospel Group.\n\nJack is survived by his wife, Merna L. (Green) \nPatten, who he married on April 8, 1955; one son, \nJohn L (Susan) Patten, II of Conshohocken, PA; one \ndaughter, Jacqueline (Ken) McFarland of \nWilliamsburg, VA; two grandchildren, Jennifer (John) \nSmethurst of Williamsburg, VA, and Lindsay (Jeff) \nCarico of Lynchburg, VA; two great-grandchildren, \nAnnie and Rylee Smethurst of Williamsburg, VA; two step \ngrandchildren, Colleen (Josh) Candee of Coatesville, \nPA, and Harry (Christine) Ireland of Havertown, PA; \nand two step-great-grandchildren, Peyton and Brady \nIreland of Havertown, PA; sisters-in-law, Margie \nVanGorder, Joyce Shaw, Carol Bowen and Teresa Green; \nbrothers-in-law, Dave Shaw and Ron Bowen; and \nnumerous nieces and nephews. \n\nIn addition to his parents, he was preceded in death \nby a sister, Virginia Kummer; sister-in-law, Norma \nHuber; brothers-in-law, Norman Kummer, Harold Huber, \nJim Green, Jack VanGorder; and a niece, Vickie \nHopson.\n\nA memorial service will be held at a later date at \nthe convenience of the family.\n\nBurial will take place in the Butler County Memorial \nPark.\n\nArrangements are being handled by Thompson-Miller \nFuneral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler, PA 16001.
