Helen Marie (Komacek) Staruch\nMay 20, 1934 - February 1, 2021\n\nHelen Marie (Komacek) Staruch, age 86, loving wife \nof Stephen Staruch, passed away peacefully on \nMonday, February 1, 2021, in the Pottstown Hospital \nin Pottstown PA. Born on May 20, 1934 in LaBelle, \nPennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late \nAlbert and Helen Komacek.\n\nHelen graduated with a Bachelor of Science in \nElementary Education from California University of \nPennsylvania, (fka California State Teachers \nCollege), where she met her future husband. Upon \ncollege graduation, she was an Elementary School \nteacher in the Brentwood section of Pittsburgh. \nAfter marrying, Helen and Steve moved to Butler, PA \nwhere she continued to teach at the elementary level \nprior to raising her family. Helen was also a piano \nteacher and vocal instructor until the age of 82 \nprivately in her home and at the Portersville \nChristian School in Portersville, PA.\n\nHer family was the most important part of her life, \nand she relished every minute with them. A great fan \nand supporter of the arts, she worked with the \nMusical Theatre Guild in Butler, PA, and attended \nconcerts, lectures and events in the Butler, \nSlippery Rock, Pittsburgh, and Youngstown, OH areas. \nA dedicated teacher when it came to her music \nstudents, she enjoyed entertaining and travelled \nwith her students to perform at nursing homes and \nassisted living facilities whenever she had the \nopportunity. An avid gardener, she spent countless \nhours in her yard perfecting the landscape and \nscenery. Helen was also a woman of great faith who \nsupported many in their times of need. She was a \nmember of the St. Paul's RC Church in Butler, PA.\n\nShe is survived by her four children, daughters Mary \nHelen Staruch, VMD, fiance of Frank, of Ocean View, \nDE, Elizabeth "Liz" Staruch, of Phoenixville, PA, \nand sons Steven Staruch, husband of Naomi, of \nMinneapolis, MN, and Peter Staruch, husband of \nBridget, of Lake Orion, MI; One brother, Philip \nKomacek, husband of Serafine "Sally", of Belle \nVernon, PA; One sister-in-law, Nancy Komacek, of La \nBelle, PA; Three loving grandchildren, Samuel, \nLauren, and Claudia Staruch and two \nstep-grandchildren, Natalie and Patrick Steimel, of \nLake Orion, MI; And countless nieces, nephews, \ngrand-nieces and grand-nephews.\n\nIn addition to her husband and parents, Helen was \npreceded in death by three siblings, Albert Komacek, \nJr., Richard Komacek, and Patricia "Patty" Kinnick.\n\nFriends will be received from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm \non Saturday, October 16th at the Thompson Miller \nFuneral Home, 124 E. North St. Butler, PA. A Mass of \nChristian Burial will be held at All Saints Parish \nat St. Paul's RC Church. Masks are requested as \nCOVID protocols are in place. Burial will follow at \nCalvary Cemetery.\n\nContributions may be made to Little Sisters of the \nPoor (Pittsburgh), Operation Smile or Greater \nPittsburgh Arts Council.
