Mary L Heist, 96, of \nButler, Pennsylvania, passed away on September 24, \n2020 at the Magnolia Place of Saxonburg. \n\nShe was born February 24, 1924 in West Winfield, \nPennsylvania to the late Louis Varljen and the late \nMary Dovjak Varljen.\n\nMary was a member of the St. Peter Roman Catholic \nChurch and the Women's Council of St. Peter's, and \nthe United Commercial Travelers. She volunteered for \nthe Salvation Army and the American Cancer Society. \nMary was a member of the Antique Auto Club of \nAmerica. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, baking \nand sewing. Mary was famous for her pies. \n\nMary is survived by her three sons, Ronald Heist of \nButler, PA, Timothy (Sherrie) Heist of West Chester, \nOH, and James (Karen) Heist of Ellicott City, MD; \nthree daughters, Cathy Heist of Albuquerque, NM, \nDebra Heist of Butler, PA, and Christine Holt of \nButler, PA; five grandchildren, Matthew Heist, \nMichael (Paige) Heist, Christopher Heist, Autumn \nHolt, Clayton Holt; one step grandson, Dustin Holt; \none sister, Viola (Min) Green of Saxonburg, PA; two \nbrothers, Frank (Peggy) Varljen of Woodstock, GA, \nand Lou (Patricia) Varljen of Cornelius, NC; and a \nnumber of nieces and nephews. \n\nIn addition to her parents, she was preceded in \ndeath by husband, Charles P. Heist, Jr., who she \nmarried on Mary 25, 1946 and who passed away on \nFebruary 25, 2013; two brothers, Leo Varlen, and \nJohn Varljen; and two sisters, Emma Michalski, and \nMatilda Wolfe.\n\nThe Heist family would like to thank the staff of \nMagnolia Place of Saxonburg and Grane Hospice for \ntheir wonderful care of our mother.\n\nFriends will be received Friday, October 2, 2020 \nfrom 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 \np.m. at Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 \nEast North Street Butler, PA.\n\nA Blessing service will be held on Saturday, October \n3, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at the Thompson-Miller Funeral \nHome Inc., 124 East North St. Butler, PA, with Rev. \nKevin Fazio, officiating.\n\nBurial will take place in the Greenlawn Burial \nEstates.\n\nDue to Covid-19 State Guidelines, visitors are \nrequired to supply their own and to wear a facial \ncovering along with maintaining social distancing. \nGroups are limited to 25 people.\n\nIn lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made \nto St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, 127 Franklin \nSt., Butler, PA 16001 or Salvation Army, 313 W. \nCunningham St., Butler, PA 16001.
