George "Butch" McGary, III, \n72, of Butler, PA, passed away on July 5th 2021 and \nwas welcomed into the arms of his daughter Allie, \nafter a sudden and unexpected illness. \n\nButch was born on February 1st, 1949, in Butler, PA \nthe only child of the late George E. McGary, Jr and \nEvelyn Kemerer McGary.\n\nButch was raised in Butler, PA and was a graduate of \nButler High School in 1967.\n\nFollowing high school, Butch worked for United \nTelephone/Embarq for 40 years until his retirement \nin 2009. His greatest pride was his 26 years of \nhonorable service to the US Army and US Army \nReserves. His service included several stateside \nactive-duty deployments and he retired with the \ndistinguished rank of Master Sergeant. Butch also \nserved his community and fellow veterans in many \nroles as a Lifetime Member of the American Legion \nand Charter member of the American Legion Riders \nPost #820 in Monroeville. Butch had been a previous \nfirefighter and rescue tech for the Prospect \nVolunteer Fire Department.\n\nButch spent his retirement days enjoying his \ngrandchildren and great-grandchild with Sue. He was \nan avid reader; he enjoyed riding his motorcycle, \nwatching NASCAR and the Steelers, fishing with \nfriends, and "tinkering" in his garage. Butch \nenjoyed coffee and donuts with friends and family \nand had a gift for storytelling, reciting history, \nand never leaving an ear unbent. Butch had a special \nlove for Allie's cat, Chloe, and he thoroughly \nenjoyed his volunteer work at Jean B Purvis \nCommunity Health Clinic in Butler, PA.\n\nButch is survived by his wife, Sue, of Butler; Son, \nGeorge E. "BJ" McGary IV, of Butler, and his \nchildren, Morgan and her partner Ryan, Madison and \nfiance Tyler, and their daughter Paisleigh Grace, \nMaKenna, and MacKenzie; Son, Chris McGary, his wife \nJodi, and their children, Laney, Emma, and Ryan, of \nDover-Foxcroft, Maine. Butch was looking forward to \nthe arrival of his great grandson in November. Butch \nis also survived by his mother-in-law, Mary Raabe, \nof Butler and several extended family members and \nfriends.\n\nButch was pre-deceased by his parents, grandparents, \nfather-in-law, James Raabe of Butler, sister-in-law, \nKathy Murphy of Alabama, and beloved daughter, \nAllison McGary, of Butler.\n\nFriends will be received on Thursday, July 8, 2021, \nfrom 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Thompson-Miller \nFuneral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, \nPa. \n\nA Military Honor Guard Service will be held prior to \nthe funeral service, which will be held immediately \nfollowing visitation at 6:00 p.m.\n\nA private internment will occur at the National \nCemetery of the Alleghenies at a date to be \ndetermined.\n\nIn lieu of flowers, the family asks that charitable \ndonations are to be made in Butch's honor to the \nSpina Bifida Association of Western PA, 3000 \nStonewood Dr. #100, Wexford, PA 15090 or Wounded \nWarriors Foundation, 600 River Avenue, Suite 400, \nPittsburgh, PA 15212.
