Sgt. 1st \nClass Jack K. Brown, USAR (retired), 88, of Butler, \nPennsylvania, passed away on December 4, 2018 at the \nGood Samaritan Hospice at Concordia. \n\nHe was born September 3, 1930 in Armstrong County, \nPennsylvania to the late Edward Staley Brown and the \nlate Anna Pearl King Brown. \n\nJack served in the US Army during the Korean War and \nretired as a Sgt. 1st Class in the Army Reserve in \n1991. He worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator for \nMears Coal Co., and a Mechanic for McGill Motors, \nand most recently TW Phillips, retiring in February \n1993. Jack was a member of Christ Community United \nMethodist Church, having served on the Board of \nTrustees and as a choir member. He was also a member \nof the Butler Lions Club, where he served as King \nLion from 1992-1993, VFW Post # 249 Butler, and \nAmerican Legion Post #778 Lyndora. Jack enjoyed \nwoodworking, golf, bowling, reading, and small \nremodeling projects.\n\nHe is survived by his wife, Phyllis L. Sutton Brown, \nwhom he married on September 8, 1953; son, Randall \nDavid Brown of Butler, PA; daughter, Pamela Sue \nSchiebel of Butler, PA; six grandchildren, Catrina \nBrown (Todd) Reichel, Christopher (Serena) Brown, \nMelissa Schiebel (Ben) Blicha, Joseph Schiebel, Ann \n(Scott) Schiebel, and Joshua Schiebel; six \ngreat-grandchildren, Nicholas and Lillian Reichel, \nAddison and Logan Brown, and Mason and Elizabeth \nBlicha; brother, Ronald (Linda) Brown of Marion \nCenter, PA; sister, Lucille Howells of Marion \nCenter, PA; and a number of nieces and nephews. \n\nIn addition to his parents he was preceded in death \nby two brothers, Herschel Edward Brown, and Lloyd \nGeorge Brown; and a daughter-in-law, Vickie Lynn \nBrown.\n\nFriends will be received Friday, December 7, 2018, 1 \n- 3 pm at Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 \nEast North Street Butler, PA.\n\nFuneral services will be held immediately following \nat 3:00 pm at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home Inc., \n124 East North St. Butler, PA, with Pastor Bruce \nGascoine of Christ Community United Methodist \nChurch, officiating.\n\nOfficers and Members of VFW Post #249 Butler, \nAmerican Legion #117 Butler, and American Legion \n#778 Lyndora will conduct military honors at the \nFuneral Home.\n\nBurial will take place in the National Cemetery of \nthe Alleghenies.\n\nIn lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested \nto Christ Community United Methodist Church, 205 N. \nDuffy Rd., Butler, PA 16001 or to Good Samaritan \nHospice, 134 Marwood Rd., Cabot, PA 16023.
