Brian \nKurtz, 52 of Butler, died on Saturday, January 28, \nafter a brief illness. \n\nBorn February 12, 1970 to Calvin J and Virginia \nKurtz, Brian grew up in Butler and attended Butler \nCatholic and Butler High School. He left his senior \nyear when his assistant principal strongly \nencouraged him to quit before he gave the AV teacher \na nervous breakdown. He loved pranking his way \nthrough his education and making his friends and \nclassmates laugh.\n\nHe went on to get his GED and attend classes at CCAC \nand Penn State. In the mid 90's he moved to Jersey \nCity and spent the next several years working, \nentertaining, and making some amazing wonderful \nfriends in/around NYC. He loved those days and the \npeople he met.\n\nHis most recent years were spent back in his \nhometown of Butler where he had a variety of jobs, \nincluding being the best "Uncle-Funcle" to his \nnieces and nephews. When the kids were with him, he \ntook wonderful care of them and of course always \nmade them laugh. He loved them and loved being with \nthem.\n\nBrian was a most faithful Pirate and Steelers fan. \nHe even managed to be on the sideline for a few \nSteelers games. It's still unclear how he convinced \na camera crew from Cleveland to let him hold the \ncamera cables in exchange for a press pass. All we \nknow is a deal was made in the 3 Rivers Stadium \nparking lot that morning and Brian ended up with a \ngreat view of that game.\n\nHe had a love of music that spanned many generations \nand genres. He always had music playing and enjoyed \nsharing his favorite songs with whoever he was with.\n\nHe loved animals as much as he loved people and \nspent 10 years with his best dog, Lititz.\n\nEveryone that knew him loved him. His heart was \nhuge, and he loved to have a deep conversation. He \ntruly made friends everywhere he went. Undoubtedly \nBrian will be remembered for making people laugh, \nfrom his childhood to adulthood. For sure, his \ngreatest gift.\n\nBrian is survived by his mother, brothers Alan \n(Mary), Keith (Carol), Bruce, Greg (Anita), Dave, \nand Matt, and his sister/Irish Twin/First Best \nFriend, Heidi Friel. Also, his partner of many \nyears, Dayna Nosse. \n\nIn Brian's honor, the family suggests that you take \na minute to make someone laugh or smile as he always \ndid for us.\n\nAll are invited to attend a memorial visitation for \nBrian on Saturday, February 4, 2023, from 5-7 PM at \nThompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 E. North \nSt., Butler, PA 16001. A memorial service \ncelebrating Brian's life will immediately follow at \n7:00 PM.
